Hey every one my keyboardist partner- Devon and I were invited to perform for a group of rehabilitated patients at a hospital in New York. When we were done this email was sent to our agent. I just thought I would share...
---"Thank you so much for sending The Athenia Henderson Carribean group to perform at this months' anniversary party! They were simply fantastic! The sound was great - patients said they felt like they were "at a concert", "on vacation", and "listening to the radio". The performer made eye contact with individual members of the audience and pulled them into the show. Patients who usually just sit and stare were actually singing and swaying to the music. She also sang special songs to deal with their plight and gave special recognition to the patients who were being celebrated. The performers looked happy to be here with us which helped to change the feeling in the room to one of happiness and helped everyone to be glad to be here today. When it was time for the show to end the patients begged them to continue and they sang an encore. One volunteer who had been a patient for over three years and a volunteer for over a year said this was the best performance she had ever attended.---" Tue, Mar 17th 10:30am
Emergenza Music Festival - Fontana's BarThe Emergenza Music Festival is an annual event which takes place in several countries around the world. New York is one of the event venues and several hundred bands sign up to show off their talent. The Festival is run as a contest where bands compete against each other for the number one place and for a chance to tour places in Europe during the summer. There are 4 rounds, and bands are eliminated at each round based on crowd response. This year it just turned out that many of the bands are rock bands or heavy metal bands. However every genre is encouraged and the band must be independent. The festival is very well run by a staff of trained professionals who co ordinate the thousands of individuals who participate in this Global event. I participated on March 14th with my new band which I call M.I.C. We played as the 4th participant in the show. After a fast paced and high energy 25 minute set we gave up the stage to the next and last band for the night. Fontana's Bar was alive on Saturday night with music and fans. Check out the Pics The event went well and Athenia and MIC will participate in the second round of this festival. The next event takes place at The Bitter End, 147 Bleeker Street in Greenwich Village in New York City. Athenia and her band is expected to take the stage at 8:30 pm. Saturday Night at Gambino'sThe night was cold and there was wet snow in the forecast for New Brunswick, which is usual for that time of year. It did not stop the supporters of Ras Rootz and Athenia Henderson from flowing through the doors at this very upscale restaurant and bar located in New Brunswick.
The music and entertainment began at about 10 :15 which is good considering most of the members are from the Caribbean  - we know how we keep time.I shared the stage with performer - The Ghost, Keebah Dread and Keebah. Both my sets lasted about 1 hour. If the crowd was not dancing they were laughing their butts off having a good time as I sang danced and entertained them. Eventually the people from the bar joined us on the dance floor. It was truly a fun affair. Lots of photos and a few hours later we had to close up. Most of the audience had remained to the end and some even stayed behind after the music had stopped.
